The settling tank collects any debris that may accumulate on the roof slope, which goes into the settling tank with rain through the gutter system, preventing blockages and clogging of drain pipes. It serves as a connector between the gutter system and the sewer system. It is one of the few to have a flap with a cut-out for a square tube.
